The Lamp With No Flame
A riddle-song inviting the listener to recover the Song of Moses (Deuteronomy 32).
Verse 1
-
Verse 1
What is a lamp with no flame inside? A gilded shell where the shadows hide? What is a page with holy ink, dry— that leaves the heart with nothing to drink? What is a mouth that names the skies bright, yet will not kneel, yet will not rise once? What is a song on borrowed breath here, that sings of life, but walks in death still?
Pre-Chorus
-
Pre-Chorus
Tell me, friend—what door stays shut tight? Tell me—what heart won’t come to light? Tell me—what words can sound so true, while feet refuse to follow through?
Chorus
-
Chorus (Riddle Refrain)
Who sees the Truth and will not choose it? Who hears the call, yet still refuses? Who holds the Word with stone-cold hands tight, and will not bend to God’s commands true? Who wears the text like jewelry bright, but will not let it pierce within us? Answer me soft—what lamp won’t flame up? Answer with steps, not words alone now.
Verse 2
-
Verse 2
What is a well praised from far away, while thirsty souls won’t come and kneel down? What is a seed held safe in the hand, never laid low in honest ground? What is “someday” said over and over, till “someday” fades into “too late”? What is a road we claim we know well, yet never walked through Mercy’s gate?
Pre-Chorus
-
Pre-Chorus
Tell me, friend—what fear keeps hold tight? Tell me—what pride won’t face the light? Tell me—what song do we proclaim, while leaving Heaven just a name?
Chorus
-
Chorus (repeat)
Who sees the Truth and will not choose it? Who hears the call, yet still refuses? Who holds the Word with stone-cold hands tight, and will not bend to God’s commands true? Who wears the text like jewelry bright, but will not let it pierce within us? Answer me soft—what lamp won’t flame up? Answer with steps, not words alone now.
The Lost Song
A sealed, warm chant that points the listener to open the Bible and read Deuteronomy 32.
Bridge (Half-time)
-
Bridge
Friends, I ask this gently—not to accuse, but to lead: What is a song we were meant to keep, but somehow lost between father and seed? If it was given to guide us, and also to witness when we stray— then let the witness be mercy to us: a light that calls us back today.
Call-and-Response Chant
-
Leader
We did not keep what we were given.
CongregationThen teach us now—begin again.
-
Leader
We did not pass what we were carrying.
CongregationThen make us faithful—mother, father, friend.
-
Leader
There is an old song—laid up for the years: to guide us when we listen, to witness when we forget.
CongregationA witness that warns— and a mercy that calls.
-
Leader
In that song—Who stands alone when idols fall?
CongregationOne Name stands. One Voice calls.
-
Leader
In that song—Who holds the border of life and breath?
CongregationThe Giver of life. The Judge of death.
-
Leader
And here is the doorway line—only the threshold, not the whole room: “See now that I myself am he… there is no god besides me.”
CongregationWe will not argue at the doorway. We will walk through.
Invitation
Leader: If you want the rest—do not take it from my mouth. Take it from the page. Let the song speak as it was given.
Congregation: Where shall we go? What shall we read?
Leader: Deuteronomy 32. Tonight, read it aloud—slowly.
Read it once straight through. Read it again and mark what returns: Rock, remember, forget, witness, judge, heal, rejoice. Ask only this: What does it show of God? What does it reveal of us? What must we teach again?
Congregation: We will read. We will listen. We will learn the song.
Final Chorus
-
Final Chorus (repeat as needed)
Who sees the Truth and will not choose it? Who hears the call, yet still refuses? Who holds the Word with stone-cold hands tight, and will not bend to God’s commands true? Who wears the text like jewelry bright, but will not let it pierce within us? Answer me soft—what lamp won’t flame up? Answer with steps, not words alone now. Let the lamp take oil again. Let the song be taught again. Let the Word be lived again— until the flame comes home.
Outro
-
Spoken (quiet)
A song was given to guide us. A song was given to witness. If it was lost because it wasn’t passed down— then we begin again.
